YU Celebrates Record Growth in Graduate School Enrollment

YU's graduate enrollment is expected to surge in fall 2023, increasing by at least 13 percent compared to fall 2022, the highest rate of growth on record. Driven by a huge rise in applications year over year, this massive upward trend has been building, with graduate enrollment rising 88 percent between 2016 and 2023. The university’s consistent growth at all levels — in both quantity and quality — is in stark contrast to a nationwide drop in college enrollment of 8 percent from 2019 to 2022 — the worst plunge in enrollment ever recorded. Even national graduate school enrollment, which had been a relative bright spot throughout much of the pandemic, showed a reversal, decreasing by 1.2 percent, in 2022, as supply outpaced demand. These upswings in enrollment are not arbitrary. A YU education has become increasingly competitive and in-demand, offering a wider range of cutting-edge graduate school programs that meet the needs of the ever-changing job market.  Graduate Schools Train the Leaders of Tomorrow In its many outstanding graduate programs, YU has responded to the needs of today’s world, offering 25 new cutting-edge programs and master’s degrees ranging from Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology Management & Entrepreneurship, Cybersecurity and more. In so doing, YU solidifies its status as a superior academic institution, preparing students for rewarding and meaningful careers in today’s most sought-after professions. In fact, six of its 11 grad programs prepare students for careers that land in the top 10 of U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 best jobs. “We are galvanizing the next generation of students to not only lead lives of great success but also lives of impact and leadership,” said President Berman. “Our graduate programs lay the groundwork to actualize these ideals, with an expert faculty, life-changing research, and curricula that address the ever-evolving needs of today’s most competitive fields.”   Enrollment at the Katz School of Science and Health, home to 12 STEM and health-related master’s and doctoral degree programs, has skyrocketed nearly 400 percent since 2017, over 200 percent since 2019, and over 50 percent since 2022. Always innovating, Katz’s new, first-of-its-kind Security Operations Center (SOC) and cyber range trains the next generation of cybersecurity experts with an unprecedented level of hands-on, real-world training and cyber-defense skills.

In recognition of its phenomenal success rate, Katz was ranked No. 2 on Fortune’s list of the best online master’s in cybersecurity programs in 2022. In addition, 95 percent of its graduates land high-wage jobs within six months of graduation, and half are offered jobs before they graduate at companies including Amazon, Meta, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, Google, IBM and JPMorgan Chase, among others. With enrollment increasing over 30 percent in the past two years and more than 300 percent since 2017, Wurzweiler School of Social Work is seeing record growth that shows no signs of slowing down. Known across the world for its wide-reaching innovations in the field of social work, Wurzweiler, in partnership with Amudim Israel, opened the Jerusalem Therapy Center to fill a critical need for affordable, English-language mental health services in Israel. The center is staffed by Wurzweiler graduate students, recent graduates and other professionals who specialize in a variety of modalities and concentrations. Completing its second year, enrollment in the Syms online MBA program more than doubled from 2021–‘22, and is expected to grow by a further 50 percent in the 2023–‘24 year. The statistics bear out what a record number of students are poised to discover: Grounded in a timeless tradition, a YU education, whether it be undergraduate or graduate, is unparalleled, opening doors to success both personally and professionally.
