Greetings!

The Institute for Leadership Education (ILE) at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa is seeking to identify high school juniors interested in expanding their leadership skills and service experiences through the 2017-2018 High School Leadership Institute (HSLI).  Now in its twelfth year, the HSLI has positively impacted hundreds of high school students, and their leadership service projects have benefited literally thousands of people in their home communities.

As part of this program, selected high school juniors will have the opportunity to:

• Attend a leadership institute at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA June 25- July 1, 2017 or Wartburg West in Denver, CO July 31-August 5, 2017 (focus on sustainability)
• Learn leadership theory and practice leadership skills
• Participate in service opportunities in the local community
• Develop a service project to implement in their own community during their senior year.

High school participants will be paired with a Wartburg College student, who acts as a mentor for the week and throughout the mentee’s senior year.  All HSLI mentors are current students at Wartburg working toward degrees while demonstrating leadership skills in and out of the classroom.

In addition to leadership skills, students who complete the program receive:

• 3.5 hours of transferable college credit (LS 115 Exploring Elements of Leadership)
• Unique service experiences
• Room and board for the week while on campus
• $1,000 Wartburg College scholarship (renewable for four years, $4,000 value)

As a guidance counselor, we understand you know students who would benefit from involvement in HSLI, and we ask that you forward this information to current juniors.
