After returning to Canada from post graduate theatre studies in New York, Simon worked in theatre for more than twenty years as a playwright, director and teacher. Co-founder of the Writers' Workshop (London, ON), Simon has written a novel, a children's book, numerous plays and several works for television. He has also produced plays across Canada as well as works for radio. Simon has taught drama and theatre at many Canadian universities.

Simon's experience in directing is vast. He has directed over 150 professional productions at theatres that include the National Arts Centre, Young People's Theatre, the Stratford Festival, Muskoka Festival and Theatre Aquarius.

For his remarkable contribution to tourism and theatre in Canada, Simon was awarded the Governor General's "Canada 125 Medal" in 1993. In 1995, he won Theatre BC's National Playwriting Competition and has been honoured with several other awards and nominations. Simon has also been active as an arts consultant and volunteer.

Since January of 2000, Simon has been the Producer and General Manager of the Richmond Gateway Theatre, Richmond B.C.
