“I work with a talented group of people to develop, implement and lead a forward-looking vision for the university,” Helble said. “This is a team effort that involves collaboration with the board of trustees, faculty, staff, students, alums and our local community.”
Education changes lives, he said. “Being part of an organization whose mission is education and the creation and dissemination of knowledge, and whose focus is on preparing students to lead meaningful lives of contribution – and having the chance to work directly with bright, idealistic students as part of it – is incredibly rewarding.”
Helble said he’s fortunate to have been mentored by many. Most recently, “Dartmouth President Phil Hanlon and prior board Chairs Laurel Richie and Terry McGuire showed steady leadership in challenging times, creative thinking that sometimes takes risks, and the importance of clear communication.”
He advised young people entering the field to listen, seeking input and advice from everyone; to ask a lot of questions; and to be curious, open to possibility “and willing to take risks – to experiment.”
