OsbornePeggy Osborne – Faculty Athletic Representative

VIDEO

Originally from Jamestown, Ky., Peggy Osborne served in the integral role of Faculty Athletics Representative for more than 15 years, assuming the role in 2001.

Before her retirement prior to the 2017-18 year, Osborne was a faculty member at MSU since 1979, lastly serving as an associate professor emeritus of marketing in the College of Business and Public Affairs. She previously served as chairperson of MSU's marketing and management department and taught every marketing course the institution offered on both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Her primary responsibilities as FAR included monitoring academic integrity and student-athlete well-being. Osborne always reminded student-athletes they are students first and athletes second. She worked on a weekly basis with MSU's athletic administrators, coaches, student-athletes and a variety of professors. Her position reported directly to the university president. She also represented the OVC on several NCAA committees. For her unwavering commitment she received the OVC Thurston Banks Award in 2014-15 for Distinguished Academic Service.

In 2010, she served an integral role in the adoption of the campus-wide excused-absence policy. The policy, which specifically addresses athletics, allows students to make up course work that is missed for a university-sponsored activity. She also played a key role in pre-registration for student-athletes, helping them build schedules around practice times to reduce the amount of missed class due to travel and competition.

Osborne earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Kentucky in 1978 and Master's degree in business administration from Morehead State in 1979. She is a proud Eagle who resides in Morehead and is still heavily involved in supporting MSU Athletics. She was recognized with the Eagle Spirit Award in Fall 2023 by the MSU Alumni Association.
