This shiur explores the nature of the ambivalence of Shmuel Hanavi toward the appointment of a Jewish king. We then present a fascinating similar contemporary analysis of Rav Velvel Soloveitchik zt"l, the Brisker Rav, of Medinat Yisrael followed by a suggestion of the Brisker Rav's consistent but different attitude before and after the founding of the State.
