Africana Studies 50th Anniversary Reception

Tickets: $50 per person (limit two)

Join us for this special event to celebrate 50 years of Africana Studies at UMBC. The event will include remarks from current and former departmental faculty, staff, students, and alumni; performances; showing of a video; dinner, and dancing. Your ticket includes a seated dinner and a drink ticket; a cash bar will also be available. 

If you are a current student majoring in Africana Studies and would like to attend the reception, do not register on this form. To add your name to the student attendee list, contact Wanda Soares Nottingham at wsoares@umbc.edu.

Anniversary Highlights

• November 9, University Center Ballroom, 5-8 p.m. – The 44th Annual W.E.B. Du Bois Distinguished Lecture with special keynote addresses by UMBC alumna and former professors, Dr. Christel Temple, ‘94, and Mr. Donald G. Murray, Jr. They will speak on the respective topics of "Cultural Memory and Mythology: Africana Agency in the Face of Exile" and "Africana Studies: Creating a Program Space and Place at UMBC and the Greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Communities"

• November 10, Albin O. Kuhn Library Room 767, 4-7 p.m. – Roundtable discussions with AFST alumni, current students, and former faculty. Register to attend HERE.
